Adını Feriha Koydum

“Büyüken Pembe Yalanları Renk Değiştiren Bir Kızın Hikayesi.”

The story of a girl on the verge of womanhood, whose white lies turned into a nightmare.

Synopsis

Feriha Yılmaz (Hazal Kaya) is the beautiful, ambitious, and intelligent daughter of a very conservative family in an upper-class neighborhood of Istanbul. Her Father, Riza (Metin Çekmez), is extremely conservative and borderline abusive. Beautiful and sensible but subjugated to the role of subservient wife, her mother Zehra (Vahide Gördüm/Perçin) works as a cleaner. She harbors, however, dreams of a different life for her clever and beautiful daughter. Her brother Mehmet (Melih Selçuk) is a troubled, aimless, self-centered, and aggressive young man, who is often blinded by a misplaced sense of family honor.

Both diligent and smart, Feriha earned a full scholarship to attend a prestigious private university, majoring in business administration. On her very first day in the new school, Feriha accidentally meets the charming, handsome, and rich Emir Sarrafoğlu (Çağatay Ulusoy.) He is known as “The Prince of the Night” because his father owns several popular clubs in Istanbul. Feriha and Emir fall in love at first sight. Unfortunately, their relationship is doomed from the very start because it is based on deception. Afraid of being ostracized in her new school, in fact, Feriha started from day one to pose as a girl from a higher social class. What she initially intended as a “white lie,” however, soon grows out of control, with Feriha unable to confess the truth for fear of losing Emir’s love. As it was bound to happen, Emir eventually discovers Feriha’s lies and full drama ensues.

General Information

Written by Tilsim, Sırma Yanık and Melis Civelek, directed by Merve Girgin and Baris Yös, and produced by Medyapım, “Adını Feriha Koydum” remains one of the most successful dizis of all times, both in Turkey and abroad. It first hit the screens on show TV in January 2011 and, after being renewed for a second season, it ran for a total of 67 episodes until June 2012. A spin-off series entitled “Emir’in Yolu” was, however, canceled without a proper finale after only 13 episodes.

In addition to Hazal Kaya, Çağatay Ulusoy, and Vahide Gördüm/Perçin, the cast of “Adını Feriha Koydum” included: Metin Çekmez, Melih Selçuk, Yusuf Akgün (Koray,) Ceyda Ateş (Hande,) Sedef Şahin (Cansu,) Ahu Sungur (Aysun,) Deniz Uğur (Sanem,) Barış Kılıç (Levent,) and many other excellent Turkish actors.

Adını Feriha Koydum” is an engaging series that offers a unique view on the early professional development of the then young and inexperienced Çağatay Ulusoy. A Turkish take on the classic Cinderella tale, it however employs Emir and Feriha’s love story to deal quite seriously with several substantive themes such as social inequality, tradition vs. modernity, and domestic violence. In addition to the riveting drama and the outstanding performances, it also showcases a remarkable soundtrack. Already a decade old, “Adını Feriha Koydum” continues to register notable success on a global scale, especially in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa, South Asia, and Latin America, where it has been translated into 20+ different languages.
